Baby Swim Sessions for 4-6mth olds

Come and ENJOY water familiarisation sessions with your baby.

Welcome Information

Babies have a natural affinity for the water.  The time while children are young is a wonderful time to start helping your child be relaxed and comfortable in the water.

Formal swim lessons start at 6mths old.  Between 4-6mths old, children can start being introduced to a pool environment in a less formal session.

These sessions are a great opportunity for you:

  • To introduce your child to the water while they’re young, before they’ve developed any fear of water;
  • To learn how to hold and support your child in the water;
  • To learn how to introduce your child to basic water skills;
  • To let your child move/exercise in the water;
  • To enjoy an activity with your child;
  • To meet with other parents of babies.

Did you know swimming improves…  Co-ordination & Balance; Sleeping & Eating patterns; Muscle development; Heart & Lung strength; The bond between carer and child.

What happens in the sessions?

During Baby Swim sessions the pool is set up with lots of toys and teaching aids.  There is a teacher in the water to help guide you through appropriate skills.  As you progress from beginner to confident you’ll be able to do more activities under your own self-direction.

You need an adult in the water per child.  Children need to be wearing an aqua nappie.  Sessions go for 30 minutes, but 4-6mth olds generally start to tire after 20 minutes or so.  So come and go any time during the session that’s suitable for you and your child’s sleeping and eating times.

We are very proud to share that 100% of the funds raised by these classes go towards funding Water Safety Education Programs to PreSchool-aged children.  Drowning is the number one cause of preventable death in 0-4yr olds.  Healthways Community Initiatives uses the funds raised by these classes to deliver award-winning Water Safety Education Programs at kindergartens and child-care centres.  Thank you to all the babies and families who attend Baby Swim sessions and support PreSchooler education.

2023:
Baby Swim Sessions$7.80
Each session is paid for at the time of booking.  There are no refunds or make-up classes.  If you miss your session, please consider that you have made a valuable donation to educate PreSchoolers about Water Safety.

What happens after your baby is 7 months old?:

To participate in Baby Swim sessions your child needs to be at least 4 months old, and before their 7 month birthday.  Formal swim lessons start at 6mths old, so somewhere between 6 & 7 months old your baby can transition to Aqua-Bub classes (6-18months).  Aqua-Bub classes are the start of formal swimming lessons.  Please CLICK HERE for information about Aqua-Bub Classes and our other swimming programs.

While we do hope that you continue with Aqua-Bub classes straight after your child’s 6-7 month birthday, there’s no obligation to do so.  Every child needs to learn to swim at some stage so at a minimum we hope that you use these sessions to introduce your baby to water, to meet us, to like us, and to then continue with us when you’re ready to start your swimming lesson journey.  We look forward to being part of your family’s ongoing water education.
